Reading guitar charts
Each hatch mark represents one beat. The 4/4 time signature indicates that each measure(the space between the bar lines) includes 4 beats.
Most charts don't specify a particular strum pattern. In the next few pages we'll learn the ins and outs (ups and downs) of strumming. An easy way to strum the chart below would be one downstrum for each beat.
