Roll over the staff to see the note names on the lines.
The notes on the spaces of the staff coincidentally spell out the simple word FACE. This makes locating a note easy. Notes on the lines don't spell anything. For help memorizing them, try using a mnemonic (Every Good Boy Does Fine).
While the position of the note on the staff determines the pitch (A,B,C,etc.), the appearance of the symbol tells you the duration that the note is held.
